LOCAL PREPARATION DASHBOARD

We are committed to protecting lives and property in our community. We have been a part of the planning and preparation for the response for this total eclipse event for two years leading up to it. We are hoping to get you connected through this site and others so that you can plan and prepare to have an enjoyable experience. We will be honest in saying that we are planning for a significant increase in visitors which will cause a rapid temporary population increase in our community and surrounding areas that will put a strain on emergency services, food, fuel, and supplies vendors, and more. We say this not to incite fear, but so we can all be prepared.

HERE IS WHAT WE KNOW

NEWS YOU CAN USE TO PREAPARE

Immediate disclaimer, we say none of this to incite fear, just to advise you so that you can make informed decisions in the preparation process. Our community is expected to see complete darkness for several minutes (3-4) based off where you are located. Here are some things to consider:

  • TRAFFIC will likely be the biggest issue based off of reports from previous locations that have experienced an event like this.  EXPECT DELAYS. If you must travel on April 8, 2024, plan for extended time to reach your destination. (3x-4x Normal Time) Airport Road/US Highway 70 West has already been identified as an extremely high traffic area. Stay home the day of the eclipse and enjoy the show, this will help you avoid the traffic congestion.
  • FOOD - Plan to get groceries the week before or even earlier to avoid shortages.
  • FUEL - Plan to get fuel the week before in case of shortages.
  • MEDICINES - Plan to have all of your important prescriptions filled and ample supply before the week of the Eclipse, make sure you don't run out too quickly afterward giving pharmacies time to restock their supplies.
  • CELL SERVICE - Plan for widespread cellular network issues and possible outages due to the large number of people trying to call, text, and stream video during the event.
  • Be prepared for some inconveniences that are short lived but an experience of a lifetime! Check back here periodically for updated information and safety recommendations as well as follow links to other eclipse related local websites.
